MindSet is Manitoba’s Integrated Health Data Platform
MindSet (Manitoba INtegrated Data Set) is leading the integration of Manitoba’s vast collection of clinical health data into a cohesive near real-time province-wide health data platform. When these data are fully integrated, MindSet will be the most complete and provincially representative health database in Canada.
Recognizing a Need for Change
The province of Manitoba has a wealth of data related to health and use of the public healthcare system. Most of these data are housed in stand alone databases. The linking together of data from these databases is important for clinicians, researchers, patients, and healthcare payers to answer critical health questions around making better decisions for patients, our system, and for promoting innovation.

With support from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and in partnership with patients and the Government of Manitoba, MindSet will build a provincial health data platform to demonstrate how integrating our existing clinical databases can support efficient and equitable healthcare delivery and permit the conduct of innovative clinical trials to inform everyday clinical decisions. When fully scaled, MindSet will facilitate the creation of a learning health system where every patient encounter informs future decisions in order to continually improve the quality of healthcare provided to all residents of Manitoba.

Using Data to Improve Capacity, Performance, and Value

The Manitoba Advantage
- Manitoba has one of the richest and most diverse collections of health data in North America going back over 30 years in some cases and includes complete prescription drug capture.
- Manitoba’s Provincial Information Management and Analytic (PIM&A) strategy and RITHIM harmonized research review initiatives serve to enable the Province-wide integration of health data and streamlines the approval processes
for health research.
- Our unified integrated health platform translates
into efficient and timely access to data. - With 1.35 million people, Manitoba’s population is large enough to supply comprehensive data, and small enough for investment dollars to have real impact to permit
cost-effective and high impact investments.
